The very rapid growth in patient dose packaging all over Europe has opened up a strong demand for deblistering equipment.
The introduction of machines from Japan (Tosho and Baxter) and Korea (JVM) into the market has provided patients with dose specific medication in pouches (sachets) or blister packs. Either way the medication needs to be taken from its original packs, which in Europe generally means blisters, in order to be transferred into the canisters within the dispensing machine, so that it can select the right tablets and capsules to automatically pack the required prescription.
Most packaging centres have been using manual or semi-automatic deblistering machines which are slow to operate, tend to cause a percentage of damage and do not generally separate the tablets from the blister strips.
